You may employ impact measures to choose a journal in which to publish because these measures can be seen as a proxy for quality or influence within a field. There are drawbacks and limitations to all measures of impact, so it is important to understand these and use metrics accordingly.
A common measure is Journal Impact Factor (JIF), which is published annually by Journal Citation Reports (JCR), now owned by Clarivate. JCR is a subscription database, and may not be available at your library. Other common metrics and their sources are listed below.
