Creating Digital Badging and Microcredential programs

One of the first decisions to make when creating a digital badging program is what platform to use. This decision may already be made for you depending on your institution. Some universities have already partnered with a particular company, or you may choose to use a badging option from within the CMS (course management system.) The following platforms are a selection of platforms currently in use:

Badgr aka Canvas Badges
Embedded in Canvas CMS.
Badgr Backpack
Formerly Mozilla Backpack.
Blackboard Achievements
The achievements tool allows instructors and course designers to designate criteria for issuing rewards to students in the form of both badges and certificates.
Credly
Pearson product.
D2L Brightspace Learner Awards
Typically under Course Tools > Awards, or Course Administration > Assessment > Awards. Both badges and certificates can be created with the option for learners to make earned awards public.
